Our History

It’s just amazing to look back on the last 40 years and see how far Disco Sports has come. The young boys and girls who bought their first bat or swimsuit are now walking through our doors with their own children – and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

It’s been a wonderful trip to today from opening the doors of our small sporting goods store in 1970. We made our first big move in 1973 to Parham Plaza, and a short two years later in 1975 we hopped over to Regency Square Mall. There we spent a wonderful 20 years growing and thriving with the community.

Our next move came in 1996, when we settled in Westbury – within walking distance of Freeman High School. It was around this time we recognized the growing need in our community for a specialized service to outfit the many local leagues – church leagues, rec leagues, schools and little leagues.

As always, we let our heart and gut lead the way, and we added a team division to handle their uniforms, hats, equipment, and trophies.

This turned out to be one of our biggest and best decisions. The groups we helped were so grateful for lifting the weight of ordering and equipping teams, and the kids are always so excited to see their names on their very own uniform. It was an instant fit.

Our most recent move happened in October 2006, when we had the chance to buy the old Darryl’s Restaurant building. That was a leap of faith, to be sure! But now we couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. We love hearing how interesting it is to shop here, where around every corner and in every nook is something great to discover.

We’re doing what we always dreamed of – running a thriving sporting goods business that is so much more about serving our community and about the families than anything else.
