Clover Hill's Portyrata Aces and Eagles in Scotland

For a talented young Richmond-area golfer, what could beat getting to travel to Scotland and getting to play on world-renowned courses as part of the U.S. Junior National Golf Team? How about sinking a couple miraculous shots during warm-up play? Abby Portyrata did just that, sinking a 100-yard wedge for eagle on the par-4 No. 2 hole of Monifieth Ashludie Golf Course. A fantastic accomplishment any golfer would be proud of. Two holes later, she ACED the par-4 No. 4. That's a hole-in-one, ladies and gentleman. On a par-4. Using her driver. That is a miraculous shot, one to remember forever. The two of them together? Two holes apart? That's the golfing memory of a lifetime. “I was shocked and pretty much speechless,” Portyrata said in a recent Richmond Times Dispatch article. “I mean, that’s the kind of thing you never, ever, expect to happen.” Abby is one of the most talented golfers around, and we've got a lot of talented golfers in the Richmond area! She won the 2012 VHSL State Championship in 2011, and was a top qualifier for the 2012 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship. We love seeing our local athletes working so hard and achieve success! We can't wait to see where Abby goes from here in her golf career.
