Godwin Girl's Volleyball Goes Undefeated in Colonial
No matter what your sport or school, going a full season without losing in your conference is a tall order for any team. So when we have one such team achieve an undefeated conference season right in our back yard, it bears a little notice and congratulations. With that in mind, congratulations to the girls of Godwin's varsity volleyball team, who completed their sweep of the Colonial District with Thursday's win over Douglas Freeman. Coach Chris Wakefield admitted to being antsy, saying to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, "I don't expect anyone not to be nervous in a match like this," he said. "(Freeman) is a high-caliber team." Godwin initially dropped to a 6 point deficit early in the match, but rallied to win their sets 25-18, 25-10, and 25-21. Coach Wakefield continued to RTD, "It's a great achievement. It's something I didn't know would happen this season. I didn't know what I would have this season in my first year as coach. The girls worked hard all season, worked hard every day at practice." From all of us here at Disco Sports, we want to add our congratulations to the praise they've earned from all over town.
