Ready for Redskins Training Camp?

Ready for Redskins Training Camp?

As the many Redskins and NFL fans around there parts already well know, this summer the Washington Redskins will be having their training camp here in Richmond. The Bon Secours Redskins Training Center is getting the finishing touches put on it, and we can't wait to see the result of all that work when the Redskins come to town. "The facility includes a 2.5 acre park which will be accessible to the public. Amenities within the park include a 1/4 mile vital course and walking/running trail, a 500-seat amphitheater, a children’s music garden, and a water wall. The amphitheater will offer programming throughout the year for outdoor concerts, performances, and festivals." Two full-size football fields with spectator areas will be where all the action takes place. Training camp will be held from July 25 through August 16, with a special Fan Appreciation Day on August 3rd. A total of 17 practice sessions open to the public. Spectators will be allowed to attend the practices FREE of charge. So we can expect to see quite a crowd! "“Fan interaction is a priority for our team and our new facility is built specifically with our fans in mind. We hope this historic move will set the standard of excellence for training camp experiences in all of professional sports,” Washington Redskins Executive Vice President/General Manager Bruce Allen said. “We are proud that Redskins training camp represents the single largest team sports event to take place within the Commonwealth of Virginia and we are excited to bring this unforgettable fan experience to Richmond.” We can't WAIT to have an NFL team in town, and can't wait to see the excitement for NFL football it generates. For a town with no NFL team and no football at our biggest university, Richmond has one heck of a NFL fanbase! And we expect to see a lot of proof of that this summer. And it sounds like RGIII and the Redskins are excited to be coming as well. A little more information from the official site: -In addition to the opportunity to watch practice, the Redskins will offer special events, giveaways and other unique fan experience destinations. Fans can also enjoy various interactive tents and purchase their favorite Redskins merchandise at the Redskins Team Store tent. Located next to the Science Museum of Virginia and the Children’s Museum of Richmond, fans can also take advantage of special exhibits that will be featured during camp. For more information on training camp events, please visit www.redskins.com/trainingcamp. -The City of Richmond will offer a variety of parking options for Redskins fans during training camp. With the exception of City Stadium, which will cost $7 and includes a shuttle, all parking facilities provided by the City will be $5. All fees are flat rates for the day (with no in-out service). Available parking lots provided by the City of Richmond will be announced closer to camp.
