Richmond Swimmers at the Olympic Trials
You might not know it if you don’t have many ties to the locals swimming scene, but we have some amazing swimmers bred here in Virginia; in Richmond especially! Some of those swimmers have been fulfilling dreams of competing at one of the highest levels swimming offers – the Olympic trials. Much of this elite-level talent comes under the tutelage of our USA Swimming programs here in Richmond – such as our good friends at Poseidon Swimming. The best swimmers from clubs and school all over Virginia come to train and compete at a national level as part of USA Swimming. Many Virginia college programs are represented. UVA, Virginia Tech, William and Mary, George Mason, and the University of Richmond all have swimmers competing. They have all traveled to Omaha, where the CenturyLink Center in Omaha has transformed its arena space into a competition long-course pool. The odds are long, and the competition is the toughest in the world. There are only 26 spots on the Olympic team for each gender, and over 1500 swimmers are expected to compete in these Trials. For many, these trials are the culmination of a lifetime of effort and dedication to the sport. Only the absolute fastest will head to London, but every swimmer who is of the caliber to compete in the Trials is a champion in their own right.
