VCU Rams: Final Four Contender
You can go through your whole list of terms for a March Madness team like the VCU Rams: bracket-buster, giant-killer, cinderella team, underdog, etc. But at a certain point, all that really need be said about the Rams is this: They are a darn good basketball team playing at the highest level of collegiate competition. And after defeating 1-ranked Kansas last night, they are heading to the Final Four. Who would have thought it after a tough loss in the CAA championship against Old Dominion? Not Dick Vitale, as just about everyone knows. Yet here we are, still basking in the glow of the media attention given to the City of Richmond as the only city boasting 2 teams in the tournament with UofR and VCU. And now we get to watch as VCU goes to the Final Four in the first time in their history. VCU's tournament resume is second to none this year. After beating USC in the preliminary round, VCU shocked the tournament by handily taking down a revitalized Georgetown. But this would prove to only be an upset appetizer, as they turned around and trounced 3-seed Purdue. In fact, VCU's closest and hardest fought win so far in the tournament has been their overtime victory against 10-seed Florida State. But it's hard to top the excitement of besting juggernaut Kansas to earn a spot in the semifinal. With Dick Vitale having changed his tune, Shaka Smart trending on Twitter, and a electrified student body (and a city!) excited to welcome their team home, it is definitely a good time to be a Richmonder.
